Appliqué:  Ornamentation, as a cutout design, that is sewn on to or otherwise applied to a piece of material. [Origin: 1835-45]

Buttons:  A small disk, knob, or the like for sewing or otherwise attaching to an article, as of clothing, serving as a fastening when passed through a buttonhole or loop. [Origin: 1275-1325]

 

C

Create:  To evolve from one’s own thought or imagination, as a work of art or an invention. [Origin: 1350-1400]

 

D

Delicious:  Highly pleasing to the senses, greatly pleasing or entertaining; “a delightful surprise”. [Origin: 1250-1300]

Embellish:  To beautify by or as if by ornamentation, ornament, adorn. [Origin: 1300-50]

 

F

Fabric:  A cloth made by weaving, knitting, or felting fibers: cotton fabrics. [Origin: 1475-85]

Garden:  A fertile and delightful spot or region; where flowers, shrubs, vegetables, fruits, or herbs are cultivated. [Origin: 1300-50]

Heirloom:  A family possession handed down from generation to generation. [Origin: 1375-1425]

Needles:  To sew or do similar work with a small, slender, sharp-pointed implement. [Origin: bef. 900]

Obsession:  The domination of one’s thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc. [Origin: 1505-15]

Passion:  A strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything; a passion for quilting. [Origin: 1125-75]

Quilt:  A coverlet for a bed, made of two layers of fabric with some soft substance, as wool or down, between them and stitched in patterns or tufted through all thicknesses in order to prevent the filling from shifting. [Origin: 1250-1300]

Reminisce:  To recall past experiences, events, etc. indulge in reminiscence. [Origin: 1820-30]

Stitchery:  Needlework on which you are working with needle and thread; "she put her sewing back in the basket". [Origin: 1600-10]

Thread:  A fine cord or flax, cotton, or other fibrous material spun out to considerable length, esp. when composed of two or more filaments twisted together. [Origin: bef. 900]
